UPL CORP SOUTH AFRICA HAS OFFICIALLY LAUNCHED CARBONSMART
At UPL Corp we believe agriculture has a crucial role to play in global sustainability efforts and to ensure producers can continue to meet food demand while simultaneously reducing the environmental impact of food production. Inspired by this goal, UPL South Africa officially launched CarbonSmart at a gala event in Gauteng on 3 October 2024.
The event was attended by delegates from industry associations, UPL colleagues from across Africa, and our first cohort of CarbonSmart farmers.
CarbonSmart is a programme that supports and encourages farmers to adopt sustainable agricultural land management practices that increase the amount of organic carbon sequestered in soils, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve overall soil health. To incentivise the adoption of these practices we have partnered with a carbon project developer, Orizon Agriculture, to unlock the value of carbon credits for our CarbonSmart farmers. In doing so, not only do CarbonSmart farmers benefit from improvements in soil health, but also have the opportunity to earn additional revenue through the sale of carbon credits.
