Through Product Stewardship, UPL creates and implements programmes aimed at supporting growers and promoting product efficiency, by reaching out to customers on correct and safe use of our products, providing better quality of life to agricultural workers by safeguarding their health and environment and benefitting the complete production chain.
Applique Bien - The Concept
In Colombia, the post-consumer container collection program is a social and environmental initiative of 33 companies affiliated to the Campo Limpio corporation, for the management of empty pesticide containers; This initiative promotes the triple washing of containers and the adequate delivery to the collection and final disposal centers.
The safe use and handling of agrochemical products requires permanent monitoring and accompaniment of both our sales force, distribution channel and the farmers who use our products in the field, therefore, this is a main focus of our program Product Management at UPL.
One of the most important pillars for the Stewardship program is the permanent monitoring in the field to detect counterfeits and other illegal products, through the Project Against Counterfeiting and Trademark Usurpation led by ANDI, it seeks to train actors who, due to their particular exercise professionals have the opportunity to become agents for the prevention of the sale, marketing or application of counterfeit products.
Train the Trainer programme With these trainings, UPL, through Stewardship México, seeks to strengthen the co-responsible participation of the pesticide industry so that Good Agricultural Practices are promoted and practiced and also ensure an agricultural and food safety and demand generation.

Our stewardship program is perfectly aligned with the core values of UPL. Especially ‘Win, Win, Win’, where we aim to create an education base for customers and employees that shares details of our products, the best practices in their use, and general aspects of the vast knowledge amassed over the years we have been operating in the agrochemical sector.
Stewardship As A Way Of Life At Upl Columbia
The UPL Columbia team has also actively participated in an industry-led program called ‘Campo Limpio’*. The program promotes the proper collection and disposal of pesticide containers. Careful emptying and rinsing of containers reduce concerns for human exposures and possible impact on wildlife and the environment. If paper or plastic containers are not properly emptied or rinsed, the container itself becomes a hazardous waste that can become potentially an expensive problem for farmers to tackle.
Our Environment Day Pledge Toward Better Product Stewardship
Upl commemorated world environment day this year on june 5th as product stewardship day. Using virtual platforms, we reached out to our core business groups from the farmer-facing divisions such as Sales, Marketing, and Research & Development to generate awareness and impart training on the responsible management of its products throughout their lifecycles.

Our Crop Protection marketing efforts are grounded in the basic postulate that the efficiency of crop protection product is linked directly to the conditions of application. At UPL, we have identified 3 key factors which are, well trained applicator, well maintained sprayer and good conditions of application. UPL’s stewardship is key to the correct and safe use of our products, optimization of their benefits and Corporate Social Responsibility.
Upl’s Stewardship Supports Business With Cotton Companies In West & Central Africa
Product stewardship helps farmers to optimize efficiency of our crop protection products and providing them with tools to use our products correctly while safeguarding their health and protecting their environment. Thus, our involvement through stewardship is not only leading to adopting Good Agricultural Practices by more and more farmers but also resulting in increase in farmer income through better yields.
Stewardship and Compliance is a new invigorated function that we have relaunched in June 2019. The function looks after customers, environment, health and safety across our whole value chain and supply chain.
